What Is An EMDR Intensive?

Over the course of a few focused hours you and I would engage in targeted treatment. This personalized treatment approach uses Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing technique to move towards your goals. It is time limited. During a half day or a weekend you would access this premium service.

What Can I Accomplish With An Intensive?

EMDR addresses the psychological and physical symptoms stemming from adverse life experiences. EMDR is not just for trauma; it is also utilized for performance enhancement and for changing feelings that keep us stuck in unhelpful patterns. Hear EMDR stories here.

An intensive offers a multitude of resources and can help to either increase performance and confidence, or significantly decrease the devastating effects of single event trauma (e.g. negative cognitions, disturbing emotions and body sensations). While many clients experiencing Complex PTSD may work on building new beliefs and strengths to transcend their trauma, or break down specific elements of trauma history.

Participating in an  EMDR Intensive may create impactful change more efficiently than just standard weekly session.

How Is This Different From Traditional Therapy?

Your every day therapy is usually between 9-5, Monday-Friday and for 1 hour weekly.

The EMDR Intensive is a brief service offered over the weekend for 5.5-12 in person hours.

In traditional therapy we spend weeks building up to the work. In the intensive model, we get right to work.

“We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.”

― Rick Warren

FAQ's

What Is EMDR?

When we experience any event, our memory takes the information and integrates it into our view of ourselves others and the world. Later we can look back and remember without any ill effects. When an event is traumatic, the information does not get stored away smoothly. When you run into reminders that undigested memory network gets activated. You might notice this when your body reacts, you hold beliefs that lead to troublesome choices, or have feelings which overwhelm you.  Learn more here.

EMDR takes the charge off the memory and allows for healing to occur. During the therapy the thought, feeling, image, emotions are activated while engaging in tapping or eye movements.  This process allows your mind and body to change the intensity of the memory and relearn a lesson about yourself.

How do i know it works?

As with any treatment I cannot guarantee specific results. However a number of studies support the use of intensive trauma focused treatment.

Research shows the effectiveness of EMDR.

•   Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.   •    Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. Learn more here.   •    An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Learn more here.   •    The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session. Learn more here.

Can I do an intensive If I am already in therapy?

Yes. Perhaps you’ve a felt sense that something profound has yet to change, but you’re not quite sure how to shift all the way into a new experience of yourself with your current therapist. Maybe you now cognitively understand new things, yet your body is still confused, so you’re curious about how adjunct EMDR intensive therapy can help.

We would work on a concern that is compatible with your current treatment efforts.

Which Format Is Right for me?

We will identify what format is best for you during your initial consultation.

Options are Brief, Extended or Traditional. Each format varies in the number of hours (see above) over the treatment period. Each has its benefits and may be better suited depending on the complexity of your needs and goals.

Each option includes a session before and after the intensive period to assess initial needs and progress.

what are payment expectations?

Payment is generally due at the time of service. Intensives payment may be made in total at the intake or may be paid as follows:

Intake: $450 + 10% Balance Due,

Remaining Balance Due At the Start of the First Intensive Session
